The second capacity development workshop for improving energy management and increasing energy efficiency was successfully held

On June 11 and 12, 2024, the Association for Water and Environmental Protection Aquasan network in BiH organized the second two-day workshop in Brčko within the D-LeaP Capacity Development Program for improving energy management and increasing energy efficiency in public utility/water supply companies ( PUC) in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH).

The workshop began with the representatives of PUC Mostar and PUC Tomislavgrad presenting their reports on the energy audit of the selected pumping station, which resulted in a productive discussion between the other representatives of the 10 companies present. After that, the participants learned more about the design of pumping stations and worked in groups to define local and line losses, as well as define the required power in order to create the conditions for choosing the optimal pump. The following sessions were focused on the calculation of electrical parameters used in the work of pumping stations, and during work in working groups they had the opportunity to determine the values of capacitors at the pumping stations. This was followed by an introduction to the equipment for measuring mechanical, hydraulic and electrical parameters, and then an introduction to the types of pumps and the selection of optimal solutions for different pumping stations, automatization and regulation, as well as the constant monitoring and management of pumping systems, as well as the maintenance of pumping systems, the life of assets , by defining critical assets, i.e. the consequences of failure and the probability of failure and the risks they generate for the management of the water supply system.

At the end of the event, the participants had the opportunity to visit the service workshop for servicing pumps where, after a demonstration by the serviceman, they had the opportunity to independently dismantle and assemble one pump, replace the seals or bearings of that pump, that is, through practical work, independently carry out a certain pump service. Also, at the end of the second workshop, the participants received a form and guidelines for developing an action plan for energy management and achieving energy efficiency in their water and sewage systems for their second independent work, which they should prepare and present during the next workshop.

This is the second of a total of three workshops of the D-LeaP Capacity Development Program for improving energy management and increasing energy efficiency in PUC in BiH, and the entire cycle is subsidized by means of the Danube Water Program (DWP).
